Betting Sites – 4 of the World’s Weirdest Bets

Betting sites are all the rage at this present moment in time. There are countless betting sites scattered all over the internet, so finding somewhere to have a flutter when you’re feeling lucky is now easier than ever.

Betting is a pastime that has been around for centuries, but thanks to the wonders of modern technology, we can now place a bet without having to even leave the comfort of our own homes. What’s more, we can also now bet on virtually anything you can think of. While sports bets are still insanely popular, we’re going to look at the slightly more bizarre side of the betting world today. Below, we’ll be listing 4 of the world’s weirdest bets ever placed. So, grab yourself a cuppa’, put your feet up, and prepare to be amazed.

2 cases, 1 bet

Betting and gambling should be fun, but occasionally people take things too far. Back in 1980, a man named William Lee Bergstrom strolled into a Las Vegas casino. In his hands he held 2 briefcases. In one case, he had $770,000. In the other case he had absolutely nothing, it was completely empty. William casually made his way over to the craps table, and for his very first bet, he bet every single dollar of his $770,000. Amazingly, he won. His winnings went straight into his second case and off he went.

Scottish Referendum

Not too long ago, Scotland held a referendum to decide whether they wanted to remain in the United Kingdom, or go it alone. One individual was so confident that his fellow Scotsmen would vote to remain in the UK, that he bet a staggering £900,000. If you’re up-to-date with your politics, you’ll know that Scotland did indeed vote to remain, and so one lucky gambler will have netted himself some very serious money in the process.

Faith in the grandkids

All grandparents have aspirations for their grandchildren, and clearly some more so than others. Peter Edwards however, really set the bar high. After seeing his 18-month grandson kicking a football around in the garden, he bet £50 that his grandson would one day play for his country and play for the Welsh National Football squad. His grandson, a certain Harry Wilson, debuted for Wales at the age of 16, becoming the youngest Welsh international to ever make the squad. Not a bad bet, huh? Peter won himself a cool £125,000.

Brazil vs Germany

Brazil have a reputation for being one of the best footballing countries in the world. With greats like Pele, the original Ronaldo, Roberto Carlos, Ronaldinho, and so on, you can see why. They’ve won the World Cup numerous times in the past, so when they faced Germany in the 2014 World Cup semi-finals, nobody would have predicted Germany would dominate the game, surely? Well, in fact, 8 people did. 8 people predicted that Germany would win 7-1 and that’s exactly what happened. One fan is alleged to have won $46,000, though some say that that is false. Either way, he will have won a lot by predicting such a bold scoreline.
