How we rank the best boxing betting sites

Boxing is a staple in any sporting fan’s repertoire, which means the demand for betting is huge as well. As boxing is such a popular sport to bet on, there comes with it an abundance of betting sites looking to catch punters’ eyes and get them wagering. But, they aren’t all created equally. That’s why we’ve thoroughly and fairly assessed boxing betting sites in the UK, ranking each with a carefully and holistically laid out process. Here are some of the most important considerations we make when reviewing boxing betting sites.

Boxing events A reputable boxing betting site will cater for fights for the major professional boxing belts, like the WBA, WBO, or IBF, as well as any other major fights happening in any weight division. Boxing betting sites that cater for big and small events will do well with punters and in our ranking.
Betting markets To win on KO, to win on points, nominate a round, or an outright win. These are all staples that should be present on any credible UK betting site’s list. However, it’s also important to cater for as many people as possible, so boxing betting sites that offer more variety will stand out amongst the crowd.
Odds and payouts Competitive odds are what brings punters back for more, as they’re great for maximising potential winnings. We compare the odds offered by different bookmakers and evaluate their margin to identify those that offer favourable odds to bettors. They should then be paid out in good time – ideally within two working days max.
Live betting and live streaming Live betting and live streaming enhance the betting experience for punters, as they can be right there in the midst of the action watching everything play out. These features are very popular in today’s betting climate and should be offered by a bookies aiming to be thought of as worthwhile. The more events that are covered the better.
Bonuses and promotions Many bettors love bonuses and promotions. We evaluate the value, generosity, and T&Cs of the most popular ones like welcome bonuses, ongoing promotions, and loyalty programmes to bring the boxing enthusiasts only the best. UK betting sites will score extra points if they’re bespoke to the events we’ve mentioned.
Betting limits Not all bettors have the same approach and budget when it comes to wagering, and that needs to be thought about when implementing betting limits. We analyse the minimum and maximum betting limits to cater to both casual bettors and high rollers. Sites offering flexibility in betting limits receive higher ratings.
Loyalty Programs Loyalty programmes, VIP schemes, and other ways to demonstrate gratitude and reward returning players is something we take into consideration. The quality and benefits of these programmes are assessed in our rankings and the boxing betting sites that go that extra mile to reward punters will do well.
Special features A reputable and high-ranking boxing betting site will offer an array of features to enhance the betting experience. These include popular ones like cash out, bet builders, acca insurance, early payouts, and plenty more. These features are in high demand and boxing betting sites that offer a wide selection will be looked upon favourably.
Customer support The backend experience is just as important, if not more, than the betting experience itself. If something goes wrong or a bettor has a question, there needs to be knowledgeable and helpful customer support agents on hand 24/7, through live chat (the go-to channel for the majority), email, or a toll-free telephone. Having an issue can be frustrating for punters, but it can be even worse if they can’t find a resolution quickly and easily.
Mobile betting experience With the rise of mobile betting, we consider the quality and user-friendliness of the mobile app or website before we recommend anything. Apps and websites are built and work differently, but both should be prioritised to deliver a great experience, with all the markets, events, promotions and features available at a bettor’s fingertips. Navigation, particularly on mobile, needs to be clear and easy to use as well, with adoption of best practices.

Best betting sites for betting on boxing in the UK

Coral

coral logo

Pros

  • Great Odds and Promotions on Betting Matches
  • Fantastic Boxing Welcome Deals
  • Great Mobile App for iOS and Android

Cons

  • Slightly Limited Customer Support

Coral is a chain of betting shops based in the UK and is one of the most established names in the betting industry. The company was founded nearly 100 years ago in 1926 and has gone on to become one of the most popular online betting sites. This article will review the online boxing betting that Coral offers Irish and UK customers. In this short review, we will cover the value for money, reliability, and security on the site.

Great odds are one of the biggest attractions when looking for an online sports broker. Luckily for boxing fans, Coral offers some great odds and promotions on boxing events throughout the year. For example, the site has priced Usyk v Dubois at 6/5 to end within the first six rounds, which is great odds. Moreover, the site offers great promotions for customers such as bet boosters on the site! The site also has a great welcome deal on boxing, with customers receiving €20 in free bets when they put down just a €5 deposit! Therefore, when you’re considering value for money on boxing bets, it doesn’t get much better than Coral.

Another advantage of using Coral for your boxing bets is that the site has a mobile app for iOS and Android. With the digital age very much here, being able to game on the go is a great plus for any site. Coral offers a seamless mobile gaming experience allowing customers to game on the go. Therefore, if you want to bet on the biggest boxing events on the go, then Coral is for you!

One slight disadvantage of using Coral is that customer support is slightly limited. Phone support on the site is only available for limited hours. However, the site offers a 24/7 live chat, so this should not deter you from betting on boxing with Coral!

Parimatch Boxing Betting

Pros

  • Great Welcome Offers and Promotions
  • Fantastic Informational Page for Beginner Boxing Fans

Cons

  • Lack of Payment Options compared to other Sites

Parimatch is an extremely popular sport and casino betting site based in Europe. Originally founded in Kyiv, Ukraine in 1993, the company has now shifted headquarters to Cyprus partially due to the Russia-Ukraine War. The site offers bets on a range of casino and sports betting games, including all forms of professional boxing. This article will cover the online product that Parimatch provides for boxing fans and how this compares to its competitors in the market.

One of the best advantages of betting on boxing with Parimatch is that the site offers some great promotions for the sport. The site provides a sportsbook welcome offer that can be used for boxing. When you put down a deposit of just €5, you receive €15 in free sportsbook bets on any sport and €5 in casino bets. This is quite rare, with most sites limiting welcome offers in sports betting to just football and horse racing.

Moreover, the site offers some great odds-on specific events. For example, new customers received 40/1 odds on Jake Paul to win in the Jake Paul and Nate Diaz boxing match, and Jake Paul went on to win! Therefore, if you’re looking for some great value promotions in boxing betting, Parimatch is for you.

Another advantage of using Parimatch is that the site offers a fantastic informational page for beginner boxing fans. The page offers information on different types of bets, how matches are scored, and how to read boxing odds. Therefore, if you’re looking for an extremely beginner-friendly site with some great odds-on boxing matches, Parimatch is for you!

One slight disadvantage of Parimatch is the payment options are quite limited and all payments are limited to Ukrainian Hryvna. Moreover, for Visa and Mastercard the minimum deposit was €20, which is higher than other sites. However, this shouldn’t take away from the fantastic boxing deals offered on the site.

BetVictor

Betvictor is one of the most established names in gambling, being established over 70 years ago in 1946. The site has seamlessly transitioned to online gambling over the past two decades, becoming one of the most popular gaming sites in the UK and Ireland. The site decided to drop its online poker page in 2017 to focus on its online casino and sports betting. This article will give a short review of boxing betting on Betvictor, covering the value and reliability of the site!

One of the biggest advantages of betting on boxing with Betvictor is how competitive the odds are on the site. When looking to bet on boxing, one of the most important determinants for customers can be how good the odds are. Since Betvictor is such as established and well-known company, the site can afford to have top research in the calculation of odds. As a result, the site can offer great odds on a range of boxing events throughout the year!

While the site offers great boxing odds, a small disadvantage to Betvictor is that the site doesn’t offer any boxing-specific promotions. While the site offers bet builders, this is only supported for certain sports. This is definitely an aspect of the site that could be improved upon in the future.

Another distinct advantage of using Betvictor for betting on boxing is there is a great range of payment options on the site. Traditional payment methods such as Visa, Mastercard, and Bank Transfer, and e-wallets such as PayPal, Neteller, and Skrill are all available on the site! They also offer extremely low minimum deposits and withdrawals for all methods of just €5! One slight disadvantage is that Revoult is not available on the site.

Mr Play

Mr Play offers lots of great options when it comes to betting. As a member here, what can you expect of them when it comes to boxing markets? Are they offering the best deals here?

Take a look at their sportsbook site, and you’ll find they have lots of different boxing markets for you. These are arranged by leagues and international boxing, so you can find markets in whichever match that you’re interested in. You’ll also find that they have a good range of in play betting too, something that’s perfect for those who want to bet as the action happens.

Mr Play are known for their great value on bets, and that’s the same when it comes to their boxing odds. While not every match will have the top odds when compared to big betting sites, they are consistently good value. As such, it’s a good idea to have an eye on the site when you’re shopping around looking for the best bet.

When you check out their promos page, you’ll see there are lots of offers that you can take advantage of. That starts with the welcome offer, which gives you a £10 bet token when you sign up and bet at least £10 on the site. However, we did note that there aren’t any boxing specific offers. It would have been good to see some offers that give you bonuses for upcoming events.

That’s only a small issue with the site though, and if you want a site that gives you good value on boxing, then Mr Play is where its at. With a lot of variety in their betting markets, and in play boxing bets available, they are the place to be.

Betfred

Betfred is a well-established sportsbook that offers a variety of sports betting options, including boxing. Betfred’s boxing betting platform is user-friendly and offers a wide range of betting options for users to choose from. Users can place bets on a variety of outcomes, including the winner of the match, the method of victory, and the round in which the match will end.

Betting on boxing with Betfred

Betting on boxing with Betfred

One of the standout features of Betfred’s boxing betting platform is their competitive odds. The sportsbook offers odds that are often higher than their competitors, which can result in bigger payouts for users who win their bets.

Another benefit of using Betfred for boxing betting is their live streaming options. Some boxing matches are available to stream directly from the Betfred website, which allows users to watch the matches in real-time and adjust their bets accordingly.

However, there are some drawbacks to using Betfred for boxing betting. The sportsbook does not offer many promotional offers specific to boxing, which may be a turn-off for some users. Additionally, some users have reported technical issues with the site’s boxing betting platform, which can be frustrating when trying to place bets on a live match.

Overall, Betfred is a solid choice for users looking to bet on boxing. Their wide range of betting options, competitive odds, and live streaming options make them a strong contender in the online sports betting industry.

Betting on boxing matches

This is a sport with some household names and fighting favourites that grab the world’s attention when they want to see who takes the championship. Betting on boxing adds an extra layer of excitement to spruce up the match for the punters who watch it.

When you learn and understand enough about the sport you are watching it becomes a game for you, placing the bets too. You get to find out if you’re a winner by predicting correctly or whether you were unlucky with your guess.

Let’s take a look at some of the UK’s best betting sites to make boxing match bets on so you can start making those bets yourself.

Boxing was once a bare knuckle scene that was deep underground and hidden in fight clubs. But that was over 100 years ago and over time it has become one of the nation’s – and world’s – best loved sports to tune into live.

As with any sport that punters can bet on, there are multiple markets available for you to place a wager on when betting on boxing matches. Bet365 has a great selection of boxing betting markets to choose from so let’s take a look at what each bet type entails.

Betting on points

One thing you might hear often in the boxing and betting world, is that people are placing wagers on certain fighters to win based on the judges’ decisions. This is normally only possible when a boxing match finishes the twelfth (and final) round and there have still not been any technical or actual knockouts. This is when the judges will step in and decide who is the winner based on points scored from successful punches and nothing else. This scenario can vary greatly depending on which boxers are taking part in the match as some boxers regularly make it to the final bell (Floyd Mayweather) whereas others almost never do.

To win Fight – Betting who wins the overall match

This is as simple as it sounds. You simply place a bet on which boxer you believe will win the boxing match. Depending on their skill level and experience in the past, the betting sites will always have one boxer with higher odds than the other. It may be tempting to place a wager on the boxer with the high odds and possibly large payout, but realistically the odds are higher for a reason – because it’s much less likely this fighter will win that match against the opponent in question.

Round betting – Over or under betting on rounds

This is a relatively simple wager also as you just have to choose how many rounds you think the boxers will complete without ending the match. Without actually choosing the specific number you just have to guess whether or not a fight will go over a particular number of rounds. For example if you are confident that the match won’t reach the 10th round then you would place a boxing bet like this:

  • Under 9.5 rounds

If you are confident that the match will in fact reach the 10th round and possibly go further then you would instead bet like so:

  • Over 9.5 rounds

To put it simply, if you bet on the under 9.5 rounds, then in order for your bet to win the match would need to end before the 1 minute and 30 second (01:30) mark in round 9. If the match ends at 01:34 you would lose the bet for example.

Fight outcome

What is the method of victory? As you can probably tell by the name, this prop wager is when you place a bet on the outcome of a boxing match but specifically by the way the fighter wins. So instead of betting on WHO wins you’re betting on HOW they win. Luckily for you there are only 4 ways a fighter can win a boxing match so there’s only four options to choose from. These are:

  • Technical knockout
  • Knockout
  • Decision
  • Disqualification

If you bet that Tyson Fury would win the overall match due to a decision vote by the judges, but right at the end his opponent throws a foul punch and gets disqualified then you would lose the bet because he won due to disqualification rather than a decision vote.

When will the fight end

What is the time of the victory? Similar to the over or under bets you can make, you can specifically place wagers on the time a victory takes place. Have you done your research on the fighters and know that each of them always wins by successful knockouts before the third and fourth rounds respectively? When you place a wager one the time of victory you can select which round you believe the match will end on. In some larger boxing betting sites you can even bet on whether you believe the round will be over in the 1st, 2nd or third minute!

Will the fight go the distance?

In boxing, the term “go the distance” means reaching the 12th round. Considering in many cases boxing matches end much sooner than the 12th round, this can be a fun bet to place depending on the fighters involved. The odds will be much higher on an unlikely outcome for example when you have two heavyweight fighters that are known for their early round knockouts who very rarely see the 12th round. If you instead have a fighter who plays a more defensive game and regularly reaches the final round, then the odds will be considerably lower to account for the higher likelihood of the bet winning.

Will the game end in 60 seconds?

This is an interesting betting market which is most often played as an in-play bet during a live match. It’s as easy as it sounds, you simply place a wager of “yes” or “no” answering if you think the fight will end in the next 60 seconds. If the fight does end during that time period then congratulations, you have made a successful prediction and made a profit. This bet type cannot be placed in a pre-match betting market for obvious reasons as the match has to be taking place at the time for the bet to be viable.

Weight classes

Unlike in many other sports, boxers need to be paired up to fight with opponents within the same weight class as them. This is so that both fighters have an equal opportunity and do not have their weight to use as an advantage.

For example, if you had a fighter who weighed in at 90kg in a match with someone who was only 57kg, you could pretty much guarantee that the person weighing 90kg would take the win. This is because his weight would put an unfair advantage on him (or her) over their opponent.

In the UK there are 13 recognised weight classes for men and 12 for female boxers. Check them out below:

BOXING WEIGHT CLASSES IN THE UK
MEN WOMEN
Minimumweight 46-48kg Minimumweight 45-48kg
Flyweight 51kg Light-flyweight 50kg
Bantamweight 54kg Flyweight 52kg
Feathweight 57kg Bantamweight 54kg
Lightweight 60kg Featherweight 57kg
Light-welterweight 63.5kg Lightweight 60kg
Welterweight 67kg Light-welterweight 63kg
Light-middleweight 71kg Welterweight 66kg
Middleweight 75kg Light-middleweight 70kg
Light-heavyweight 80kg Middleweight 75kg
Cruiserweight 86kg Light-heavyweight 81kg
Heavyweight 92kg Heavyweight 81kg or more
Super-heavyweight 92kg or more

You must also bear in mind that the different event or competition that the boxers are competing in will depend on what weight classes are recognised.

Generally speaking the major boxing leagues include 17 weight classes. However as you can see above in our table, the UK only counts 13 of these in men’s boxing.

Changing weight classes

In some instances a popular fighter might move up or down a weight class to compete in different bouts. Sometimes this is to claim multiple titles (one for each weight class) as if a boxer is able to get multiple titles under his name it is classed as a great achievement, something many fighters want to be known for.

In other instances when a weight class is changed it is specifically to compete against a particular opponent.

An example of this is when Kell Brook went up two whole weight classes in 2016 in the attempt to take on the (at the time) undefeated middleweight champion Gennady Golovkin. But Brook had previously always been in the welterweight category so it was a tough time for him in the run up to the fight getting his body into the right fighting condition to go against his desired opponent.

Major boxing leagues to know about

Each of the boxing matches you’ll find yourself betting on are likely to be managed and sanctioned by one (or more) of the four boxing sanctioning organisations worldwide. Each of these organisations have standard rules in place to keep a consistent standard across all of the boxing matches that take place under their watch. This helps with keeping games fair and unbiased and is in some ways a regulating body.

World boxing association (WBA)

Founded in 1921, this is the oldest organisation associated with major boxing bouts. It is one of four groups that run the boxing industry worldwide.

World boxing organisation (WBO)

Founded in 1988, this is the second oldest boxing organisation to be associated with major boxing fights and competitions.

International Boxing federation (IBF)

Operating under its current name since 1984 after a name change. This is another boxing sanctioning organisation that runs alongside the other 3 major league organisations of the sport.

World Boxing Council (WBC)

Founded in 1967 the World boxing council is the 4th boxing sanctioning organisation that runs all major high league boxing bouts and matches worldwide.

Most popular boxing matches to bet on

Some of the biggest boxing events are surrounding the heavyweight championships. These are the fights with the most television and media coverage as well as some of the biggest names in the boxing world. This is why it is of no surprise that the heavyweight fights are also the favourite bouts for punters worldwide to bet on.

If there is ever an anomaly fight anticipated by two high-profile fights then these are usually also extremely sought-after boxing bets. An example of this is when youtube star Logan Paul decided to go up against the well known Floyd Mayweather, the world went wild waiting for the outcome. The number of bets placed on this bout was significantly higher than normal due to punter’s confidence in the outcome. This is because Paul had a very short boxing career in comparison to his rival Mayweather.

How to bet on boxing

#1. Choose your betting site

You will need to do some research into the new customer offers and the betting markets available in order to select the right boxing betting website for you. You want to go for a site that is properly regulated, has site security to protect you and your money, has a good reputation, good betting markets and deposit methods that suit you.

For this example I will use Paddy Power. Below is the first page you will see on their homepage.

Paddy Power's Homepage

#2. Log in, or create an account if you’re a new customer

To log in click the “Log in” button at the top right corner of the page where you can input your email address and password.

If you are a new customer then click the “Join now” button instead to bring up the registration form.

As you can see you will need to input your personal details including your full legal name, date of birth, home address and contact information. You will then be prompted to create a password and answer your chosen security questions to help protect your account.

Remember to pay attention to the promo code (if applicable) as you will need to input this code during the registration process. There is no way to add it after your registration is complete.

#3. Deposit funds into your account

Once you have successfully input your details the next page brings you to the deposit screen. But you can also find the deposit page from the home page as it is in the top-right corner of the screen once you’re logged in.

Click the green “deposit” button which is next to your betting account balance and it will bring up the form so you can deposit your funds.

Once you are in the deposit screen it is very straightforward to navigate. Just select either a debit card or an alternative method to make your deposit with. Then you may select the cash value you want to deposit into the account. Always check what your welcome offer minimum deposit is so you don’t deposit too little and become ineligible for the free rewards.

In Paddy Power’s current offer the amount needed to qualify is just £10 so that is what will be selected.

#4. Find boxing in the Sportsbook

Once your funds have been deposited you will see the cash value in the top right hand of your home screen where it shows your account balance.

From the home page you will need to search for the sport you need. As you can see the sport we are after “boxing” is not listed in the immediate sport list on the left green sidebar. This means you will need to scroll down until you find the button that says “A-Z betting”. This will open a more in-depth list with all sports they have available for within the site. Luckily it is in alphabetical order so boxing will be near the top of the list.

Choosing Paddy Power's Boxing Section

Choosing Paddy Power’s Boxing Section

As you can see above, the side bar menu changed to contain a lot more sports. Boxing is the 6th option down from the top of the list. Click it, and the boxing sportsbook will open.

#5. Choosing a betting market

So we have the boxing categories in front of you so now is the fun part. You need to decide what market you would like to place your wagers on. What’s great about Paddy Power is that they list sporting events in chronological order. This makes it really easy to find the particular match you’re looking for – assuming you know when it’s due to take place.

Choosing a fight

Choosing a fight

A common betting market is an outright win where you choose which fighter you think will win the overall fight. As you can see, the first match tomorrow between Richard Riakporhe and Fabio Turchi has the odds on the right-hand side. These odds are in reference to outright wins or a tie/draw.

#6. Building your bet slip

Let’s say you are confident that Riakporhe will win the overall match tomorrow. You would want to bet on him as that is your prediction. His odds to win are 1.08 under the left column. The first name listed is always the first or left column, and the second name listed is always the final or right column. This makes it easier to understand who and what you are betting on.

Once selected, click the button (odds) of the outcome you predict. This will open your betting slip.

Paddy Power's Boxing Betslip

Paddy Power’s Boxing Betslip

As you can see, when you first create a bet the betting slip is empty so the potential returns is at 0 since it believes you are betting nothing. Once you input the amount of money you wish to wager into the type box you will automatically see the site calculate the potential winnings you could get if your bet is successful. Make sure to always confirm (or place) your bets to make sure they were completed.

#7. Settling your bet

Once you have made the bets you want, there is nothing more to do until the matches are over or until the outcome you predicted happens. Once complete, any winnings you have earned will be deposited by the site into your account balance (You can find that at the top of the homepage next to the deposit button). If your bets were unsuccessful then of course you will not be eligible for any winnings.

Rules of Boxing

In order to understand how to bet on boxing, you first need to understand the rules of the sport. Unlike some other more complicated sports, boxing is relatively straightforward and only has a few rules for beginners to understand. This makes it a fantastic sport to place bets on as you can learn the fundamental basics very quickly.

The main aim of boxing is that boxers need to hit each other, while avoiding being hit themselves. This happens through a dance of punches and successful blocks.

The three types of punches boxers usually fight with are:

  • a straight
  • an uppercut
  • and a hook

In a way, boxing is comparable to a game of “rock, paper, scissors” due to the types of punches thrown and the speed at which each punch can land. If a boxer is about to be hit with one type of punch they could get a quicker punch in before it lands if they think quick enough. For example:

  • A straight punch would hit before a hook would.
  • A hook punch would hit before an uppercut would.
  • An uppercut punch would land before a straight punch would.

As with any sport there are also rules on what boxers are not allowed to do during play.

  • Boxers must not hit their opponent in the back of the head or neck.
  • No punches “below the belt” are permitted. Fighters must also not block their face so low that it is below their opponent’s belt as this would be an illegal move.
  • Boxers can only hit their opponent with their gloves. However they cannot hit them with an open glove, wrist, backhand, side of hand or inside of the glove.
  • Fighters are not permitted to use their forearms, elbows, heads, legs or shoulders to hit their opponents.

How long are boxing matches?

Boxing matches are typically 12 rounds long and each round lasts just 3 minutes each. There is also a break of 60 seconds in between each round to allow the boxer a chance to catch their breath and to refresh before the next play.

If you include each 60 second break in the count, a match that completes all 12 rounds should last 47 minutes. However, it is not often that professional matches go the distance. Many end up with a clear winner many rounds sooner.

The points system

Luckily for punters who want to bet on boxing there is a very simple point scoring system within the sport. This is mainly down to how many punches a boxer successfully lands without being blocked.

If you successfully land a punch that was not blocked by the opponent then you will get a point. However, there are no points scored for blocking a punch. This means that boxers cannot spend the entire match blocking punches, otherwise they will not get any points. They must actively try to make punches that land accurately to stand a chance at winning the fight.

Let’s take a look at an example of two boxers who have the potential to do great things in 2022.

Jared Anderson (heavyweight) & Tony Yoka (heavyweight)

If these two boxers had a match against each other, the scoring system would go as follows:

  • Anderson uppercuts Yoka, who makes a successful block – so nobody would get a point.
  • Yoka gets Anderson with a straight punch which was not blocked – Yoka would get a point.

How to win a boxing match

In professional boxing matches there are only a few ways to win a match. These are: Technical knockout, knockout, decision and disqualification.

Many punters believe having only 4 ways to end a game a benefit as it can be easier to predict an outcome – which is exactly what you want when you’re trying to wager successful bets!

Technical knockout A boxer has ended up on the floor of the ring – still conscious – yet cannot get up within the 10 second time limit.

Knockout The boxer is physically unconscious due to passing out or being “knocked out” during the fight.

Judge Decision When both boxers are usually still standing and the judges need to determine a winner based on landed punches throughout the match.

Disqualification When a fighter gets disqualified for a foul move (for example a punch below the belt line), their opponent would win by default.

Tips for betting on boxing

Like all sports there are certain things that should be taken into consideration before placing bets on boxing events. By doing your research and following a few of these tips you will be in a better position to place bets.

Overall health of the fighters

Similar to that of tennis or football bets, in boxing you really need to look at how fit and healthy a boxer is. If they have recently suffered an injury then it is less likely they will be on the top of their game and in turn they’ll be less likely to win against their opponent. In order for the boxers to do well in their fight they need to be at the top of their game to have a solid chance of winning.

Don’t play favourites

You shouldn’t feel like you always have to bet on your favourite fighter just because they’re your favourite. Before making your bets you should always consider what fighter your favourite boxer is up against. If the opposing fighter has the better record then it might be worth betting for them to increase your chance of winning – and that’s the goal of betting after all right?

Check their history for injuries

Similarly to checking their overall health, you need to look into how often the fighters are severely injured during a match. Are the fighters in the upcoming bout quick to knockout their opponents? Or are they the ones usually on the bad end of the knockout? By knowing this in advance you can start to build a picture of how the upcoming match might go and have a higher chance of predicting the fight outcome correctly.

Ignore the pre-fight promotions

In the run-up to a major boxing match there will often be lots of promotions and excitement to entice people to want to tune in and watch live. This can cause promoters to stretch the truth and over-hype the boxers to make them seem stronger and more intimidating than they actually are. Although this can sometimes be correct it can also cause a skewed bias on fighters before the match has begun. This can cause the odds to fluctuate during the week’s pre-fight too.

Boxing bets in-play and live streams

If it’s not enough to just bet before a bout has started then you can find some boxing betting sites that allow punters to bet in-play and watch the sporting event live as it takes place. This adds an extra level of challenge as these in-play options give you an opportunity to place a few bets that cannot be made before the match has started which could give you another chance at winning some predictions.

Final thoughts of betting on boxing in the UK

Betting might have a smaller range of betting markets when you compare it to sports like football or tennis, but that’s not to say it is less enjoyable. Boxing is a unique sport with fewer possible outcomes so in a sense it could be argued that it is an easier sport to bet on – and more likely for you to score a profit!

As long as you do your research and pay attention to the individual fighters’ histories within the sport, you’re already one step closer to making a few successful (and hopefully winning) bets. Who will you place your first bet on to win?
