#3 Cycling Betting Site - bet365

bet365 is possibly the largest bookmaker in the world as they operate in multiple countries and have a great reputation. When it comes to betting on cycling events they always have competitive odds and a great market selection – including the option of special bets. They are always at the top of the generous list when it comes to handing out new user welcome bonuses but they don’t tend to keep up the offers for existing players. Luckily for those successful bettors too, bet365 is known for having quick payouts of funds when you win.

They might have slightly higher fees than other platforms when using selected payout methods but you’ll have a better live betting experience so the two balance out – if you have a little patience. They often cover the most popular cycling events and you can use their mobile app to bet on the move too.

Unlike many other sites who also offer welcome offers, Betfred actually continues to offer their existing customers generous promotions. They’re also high contenders when it comes to their customer service. Be aware that when it comes to withdrawing your funds it can take a little longer than expected after verification but it’s a very secure process.

Cycling betting sites are the types of bookmakers that allow punters and spectators to bet on the cycling races. Every year, the sport of competitive cycling becomes more intriguing. Fans now have more opportunities to wager on significant races occurring all over the world as this sport becomes more and more popular. More people are becoming interested in watching various professional cycling races that take place across the world as a result of this.

Introduction to Cycling Betting

Realistically speaking, cycling will probably never be as well-liked as other big sponsored sports like football, basketball, and rugby for example; However, the quantity of casual riders has been rising over time and each year the hype and excitement around the popular cycling events gets more mainstream media coverage and increases in likeability..

There are three major cycling events in the betting world and although they have similarities they also have vast differences that make them unique. Let’s take a look at what is so different about each one so you can better understand which race you might be more interested in betting on.

Tour De France

Starting in 1903, The Tour de France is a yearly multi-stage bicycle race for men that takes place largely in France and sporadically in neighbouring nations. It is an annual cycling race in July each year and is quite easily the most well known cycling event world wide. Not only is it the most known but it is also the oldest of the three major tournaments so it has a long line reputation to live up to with a global fanbase of betting fans and viewers.

Jonas Vingegaard 2022 Denmark
Tadej Pogacar 2021 Slovenia
Tadej Pogacar 2020 Slovenia
Egan Bernal 2019 Columbia
Geraint Thomas 2018 United Kingdom (Wales)

Giro d’Italia

The Giro d’Italia is an annual multi-stage bicycle race that predominantly takes place in Italy but also begins or ends in other countries. The Giro d’Italia is actually much more difficult than the Tour de France by a substantial amount now and this means that cyclists need to be on top of their game both physically and mentality. This event is mostly known for its high mountain routes and erratic weather which can often be hard to predict, which means the cyclists could be competing in bad weather.

Jai Hindley 2022 Australia
Egan Bernal 2021 Colombia
Tao Geoghegan Hart 2020 United Kingdom (England)
Richard Carapaz 2019 Ecuador
Christopher Froome 2018 United Kingdom (England)

Vuelta a Espana

The Vuelta a Espana is the youngest of the three cycling tournaments. The race was originally held in 1935 and was influenced by the popularity of the Tour de France and the Giro d’Italia. Similarly to the other races, this one primarily navigates through Spain but does occasionally end up in neighbouring countries during the course of the race. It’s a nonstop race and it produces uninterrupted action for the duration of the competition.

Available betting markets for cycling betting sites

Winner of the race

This is a rather self explanatory betting market and one of the most common bets punters will make on cycling. This is where you predict which cyclist will win a specific race. It’s arguably one of the most straightforward bets to make as there is always a clear winner in cycling races and events.

Top three or top ten finish

These are flexible bets as it allows you to pick whether or not you think a cyclist can make it to the top three spots of a race. Since you are not just having to choose if they will make it to the number one position, but instead a chance of three (or ten) spots, it actually gives you a slightly higher chance of being successful with your bet while also lowering your risk a small amount. This is due to having three or two positions for your cyclist to place which is a lot of wiggle room in the betting world.

Mountain King

A mountain king is a name given to certain cyclists who “sprint” through a track. They are typically not found to win the overall tournaments, but they do often finish individual tracks in the top 3. When given this status it is common that they will receive a coloured jersey to identify which cyclist is a mountain king vs other status available.

Tournament winner

Similar to that of the “winner of the race” bets, a tournament winner is the person who finishes with the most points overall and is able to be crowned the winner of the overall event or tournament.

Pairs or match ups

A match up bet is common in many other sports and it’s a favourite option when betting on cycling too. This bet is when you make a bet across two cyclists and you choose which one will be better than the other in the race or overall tournament. This is another bet that allows for flexibility and slightly lower risk as you are not needing to guess the position of either cyclist, you only need to be accurate with whether one finishes at a higher position than their “pair”.

Special bets

The good thing about special bets is there is a whole range of various bets that can be placed. These could be anything from the number of cyclists that actually complete the overall race or events, or whether someone beats a specified time on a timed race. These are always a little more complicated and interesting compared to your everyday winner bets.

Different types of cycling you can bet on

Although the mainstream cycle contests are all the same style of cycling, they do not tick off the entire cycle industry. That’s why, when you start betting on cycling events through betting sites and bookmakers you will need to pay attention to the different types of track and trail available. The terrain can make a drastic difference to the ability of the cyclist which in turn can affect the bets you place. By being aware in advance of the type of terrain, you’re in a better place to make decisions on who you think will win!

Road Cycling

This is the main type of cycling that includes the three major contests above. This is the most common form of competitive cycling for the mainstream events.

Track Cycling

This is typically the cycling you will find in large events like the olympics when custom made velodromes are created especially for the series.

Mountain Biking

This is a category that has multiple types within it. Not only do all of these following cycling styles go across mountainous terrain, they’re also vastly different within the category.

  • Cross Country
  • Trail Riding
  • Bicycle Moto-Cross which is commonly known as BMX
  • Enduro

Step by step guide: How to bet on cycling betting sites

Step #1: Create your new user account on 10 Bet

Before you can successfully make bets you will first need to either log in (if you are an existing user) or create a brand new user account if this is your first time using them. From the website’s homepage, you just need to click the bright green “Join Now” button in the top right hand corner. This will open a registration form consisting of three pages for you to fill out.

10bet's Homepage

10bet’s Homepage

Personal information required by 10Bet

Personal information required by 10Bet

On the first page above, you will be required to input your status of Mr or Ms, your full first and last name that matches your legal ID, your date of birth and email address. Make sure that these are all typed correctly as these are hard to change down the line. Plus, your email address which is how you will gain access to your account if you get locked out.

Contact information required

Contact information required

The second screen of your registration form will need you to type in your mobile phone number, postcode and address of your legal residence. Again, it is better if this matches your legal documents as you will need these for verification down the line.

The third and final page of the sign up form requires you to input a chosen username and password that you will use each time you log into your account. The currency you will be using for the site will be auto populated to GBP – UK Pound Sterling but it is changeable if for some reason you don’t want to be paid in that currency. Finally you will need to choose your daily, weekly and monthly deposit limits.

Username and password required

Username and password required

Step #2: Deposit your funds into your account

Before you can make your bets, you will need to deposit money into your 10 Bet account. You can do this by clicking on the “deposit” button at the top of the homepage after registering, and it is next to your other account details.

From the deposit pop out window, you will see the various payment methods available on the left hand side. Select which one you want, however for this example we will stick with the automatic visa or mastercard option. As you can see from the image below, there are three cash amounts, £20, £50, £200 for you to choose from, or you can choose your own and manually type it into the box.

You will need to type in all of your card details and you should double check the numbers are correct or it won’t go through. Once confirmed your account will hold the balance of your deposit.

Using your card to deposit

Using your card to deposit

Step #3: Finding your sport and betting market

From the homepage after you have deposited your funds, you need to find the sport you want. Scroll through the list on the left until you find the sport you are looking for. Unlike most other sites, 10 Bet is not in alphabetical order. Cycling is about halfway down the list. Once you click it you will be taken to the cycling section of the sportsbook.

Finding a sport to bet on

Finding a sport to bet on

As you can see in the image below, you can see the cycling section of the site containing the Tour De France competition and the cyclists that are competing. In this list you will see the names of each cyclist as well as the odds (likelihood) that each one will win. This list is representing the outright winners.

Choosing to bet on the Tour De France Cycling race

Choosing to bet on the Tour De France Cycling race

Step #4: Placing your bet and waiting for results

So you’ve found the bet you want to place and now need to add it to the bet slip. For this example I am rooting for Jonas Vingegaard to win the outright race so we have clicked on his name which has odds of 5/4. As these are not high odds, if you look at the bet slip and I bet £5, even if he wins, I will only win back £11.25. If you select a competitor with higher odds then your potential returns will be significantly higher. If happy with your bet, make sure to click the green “place bets” button to confirm it.

Picking a Tour favourite

Picking a Tour favourite

Once you have finished your bets you must wait for the race to happen and finish. Only once the winner of the race has been announced will you find out if you have won the bet you placed. You can either check this manually or just wait for the notification that the site will send you. If you have winnings they will be sent straight to your e-wallet.

Final thoughts

As with any sport, it is no surprise that you will need to understand the sport in order to make more successful bets. Cycling has much fewer rules than that of standard competitive sports such as football, but that doesn;t mean you can’t still enjoy placing bets on it. By following the tips above and what features of a cyclist and race track you should be aware of, you could easily be on your way to a successful betting season using one of the listed cycling betting sites above.
