EPL Weekend Preview

Match Previews: Pick of the bunch

Friday

Everton vs Tottenham

Both sides suffered disappointing results last weekend, and it looks as though both will now be fighting it out to reach a Europa League place at best.

Everton haven’t won in 5 games in the league, and with that current form, there won’t be any European football for this team next season. They’ve brought in a world class coach in Carlo Ancelotti, and players of great quality with James Rodriguez and Allan joining their ranks, all in the hopes of reaching Europe this season but it hasn’t gone swimmingly. A 0-0 draw last time out against Brighton turned out to be a lucky result as they were dominated in the game, and a bad result here against Spurs could see any chance of Europe disappear.

Tottenham are in the same boat as Everton. World class coach and players, but their season could end up with nothing to show for it. It’d be disappointing to say the least if Tottenham don’t reach Europe, and it will likely result in some changes being made if that’s the case. Man Utd fought back to turn the game around against Spurs last weekend, as Tottenham yet again let a lead slip away. It’s an important fixture here at Goodison, and with Son and Kane likely to play, they’ll be in with a chance.

Saturday

Newcastle vs West Ham

Newcastle’s win against Burnley means they take an important step away from the relegation zone, while West Ham proved once again that they deserve to be where they are after beating Leicester.

The home side have put themselves in a great spot after their win over another relegation candidate in Burnley. That result, along with Fulham losing to Wolves means that the club can let out a huge sigh of relief, but it isn’t all over yet. There’s still a lot of important fixtures to be played and it won’t be easy, but they’ve given themselves every chance now. West Ham are likely one of the toughest teams to play in the league at the moment, and this one should be a close game with both teams having a lot to play for.

The Hammers sit in 4th, and beating Leicester last weekend was another great result for the club. Jesse Lingard was the difference once again, after netting a brace in a 3-2 win, and he’s been in great form since joining on loan from Man Utd in January. With teams breathing down their neck and all vying for a Champions League spot, this one could be such an important game for West Ham. Newcastle have put up a fight in recent matches and they will be up for this one also, but West Ham have all the confidence in the world and should be fancied here for the 3 points.

Monday

Leeds vs Liverpool

This one should be highly entertaining. With Liverpool heading out of Europe this season, all focus is on the league, and they have to win here to mount pressure on the teams above them in hopes of reaching a Champions League place. Meanwhile, Leeds earned a fantastic result last time out with a 2-1 win over Man City.

Beating Man City will put a lot of confidence into this Leeds side heading into this one. With Liverpool’s form in recent weeks, this game isn’t a given for the away side and Leeds could capitalise on that ruin Liverpool’s hopes of Europe if they pick up a result here. They may finish mid table this season, but Leeds have been one of the most entertaining teams to watch this season and they’ve proven that they can hang with the best of them.

Trent Alexander-Arnold may be getting a lot of criticism recently, but his late winner against Aston Villa at Anfield earned his side their first win at home in 6 games. That goal has put Champions League places back within reach for the current champions, but they will have to rely on teams above them also slipping up. Every game from now until the end of the season is a must win for Liverpool.
