When considering football, transfer betting sites are specialist websites dedicated to offering the opportunity for bettors to place a wager on the outcome of players moving (or transferring) to other teams. It involves putting money down in a bet onto the outcome of where a football player might be sent to within the transfer window.
This is something that happens twice a year at the same time and there is a deadline that needs to be respected. The 2022 summer transfer window starts on 10th June and ends on 1st September and extends out to European Leagues. The England January transfer window starts 1st January and ends on 31st January.
Football transfer betting is growing increasingly popular and can be very rewarding if you play your cards right. But that’s not to say it is easy to predict the right outcomes. There are a few tips and tricks you should follow to increase your chances and give yourself the best chance to make some winning bets while betting on football transfers.
Country | Pre-Season | Mid-Season |
Albania | 1st June – 31st August | 1st January – 31st January |
Bulgaria | 16th June – 8th September | 25th January – 22nd February |
Denmark | 11th June – 1st September | 5th January – 31st January |
England | 1st June – 31st August | 1st January – 31st January |
France | 1st June – 31st August | 1st January – 2nd February |

Norway | 12th January – 4th April | 19th July – 15th August |
Romania | 16th June – 8th September | 25th January – 22nd February |

Scotland | 9th June – 1st September | 1st January – 1st February |

Although the vast majority of people who take part in football transfer betting place bets on the players, many people also have the opportunity to bet on the transfer of the teams’ managers. This is an extra bit of fun and can cause just as much excitement as the player’s transfer bets.
This is a very simple “yes or no” prediction. You have a 50/50 chance of getting your bet prediction correct as the player is either expected to leave their current team or not. This is by far the easiest and most simple of the “transfer market bets” available while transfer betting.
Another straightforward market when betting on football transfer is the next team a player actually moves to. So you think you know if that player you like is a season favourite and wanted by other teams, but could you actually predict what team puts in an offer that he accepts? There are many times offers that get issued but not all of them are accepted by the players. Oftentimes the players refuse an offer if they are waiting for a specific team or contract cost during the transfer window.
This betting market on many transfer betting sites is pretty self explanatory. Similar to the previously discussed markets, this is one where you must accurately predict the name of the player that has a contract purchased to move to a new team. If you have the team Chelsea in mind, and you think Cristian Romero from Tottenham is likely to be snapped up by Chelsea this season, you’d place a bet on this outcome. This is one of the more tricky betting markets to use since you need to guess players by name.
This first example is regarding Cristiano Ronaldo after the summer transfer (ending September 1st) on the Unibet website.
Manchester United | 3/10 odds |
Chelsea | 9/1 odds |
Bayern Munich | 12/1 odds |
Atletico Madrid | 4/1 odds |
Sporting Lisbon | 9/1 odds |
This second example is regarding Cristiano Ronaldo after the summer transfer (ending September 1st) on the Bet365 website
Manchester United | 4/9 odds |
Chelsea | 12/1 odds |
Bayern Munich | 14/1 odds |
Atletico Madrid | 10/1 odds |
Sporting Lisbon | 9/4 odds |
As you can see, even though the outcomes of each bet are the same, the odds are quite different across the two different platforms. This is due to each bookmaker having variable odds. Before you settle on your choice of bookmaker make sure you have compared the odds on each site. You’d rather make sure you have competitive odds for the same outcome. This will guarantee you have a higher profit for betting on the same outcome, assuming your prediction is correct of course.
Always make sure you compare football transfer betting sites before settling on one to bet from.
Although the most expensive transfer of all time was for player Neymar to move from Barcelona to Paris Saint-Germain, that’s not to say other years didn’t also hit the records of highest transfers of all time. Below is a list – in year order – of the highest transfers across the world. Similarly to when they were taking place, this is the type of bet you can currently bet on using football transfer betting sites.
Player (country) | Year | From (Team) | To (Team) | Amount |
Gareth Bale | 2013 | Tottenham Hotspur | Real Madrid | £86 million |
Luis Suarez | 2014 | Liverpool | Barcelona | £65 million |
Kevin De Bruyne | 2015 | VfL Wolfsburg | Manchester City | £55 million |
Paul Pogba | 2016 | Juventus | Manchester United | £89 million |
Neymar (Brazil) | 2017 | Barcelona | Paris Saint-Germaine | £198 million |
Kylian Mbappe | 2018 | Monaco | Paris Saint-Germaine | £163 million |
Joao Felix | 2019 | Benfica | Atletico Madrid | £112.9 million |
Kai Havertz | 2020 | Bayer Leverkusen | Chelsea | £72 million |
Jack Grealish | 2021 | Aston Villa | Manchester City | £100 million |
Aurelien Tchouameni | 2022 | Monaco | Real Madrid | £69.4 million |
Since there are always two windows for football transfer per year, you can see that 2022 is already on our list. This is a transfer that has already completed during our year and there are many more still left to be offered and completed.
Pay attention to the rumours
Rumours are normally started for a reason in the football transfer world. This is because players may be ready to leave their current position or they may have already had people contacting their agents in the hopes of a deal. If there are rumours surrounding a particular team or player then it’s highly likely this will be a person that cuts a deal during the transfer window.
Verify resources
Although you should read the rumours you definitely shouldn’t believe everything you hear. This means in order to predict accurate outcomes you need to verify the resources and rumours yourselves. This could be as easy as checking the integrity and reputation of the source to decide if you believe what they say.
Unibet homepage
Step #1 – Finding your betting site
Once you have done some research and found the betting site you like, you will either need to log in or create a new account. For this example we will use Unibet to place a bet on a football transfer. If you only need to log in, you can simply do so using the button at the top right of the screen. If instead, you need to create an account you can do so using the next steps.
Step #2: Creating your account on Unibet
When you first click the “register” button in the top right of the screen you will be met with a list of special offers the site is offering at that time. Have a look and see which is most relevant to your interest and select it. Scroll down to the continue button to reach the next page.
Choosing your Unibet welcome
As you can see below there is a simple registration form to fill out. This includes asking for:
Once completed you can proceed onto the next – and final – page of your registration form.
Details required by Unibet
This second page of the form is quick to fill out. You only need to input your:
Once this page is complete you are done with your form and you will be directed to the Unibet homepage again ready to start betting.
Step #3: Deposit funds into your account
In order to start betting on football transfers you will first need to deposit money into your account. In order to do this you will need to access the banking and deposit page from the homescreen. In the top right corner of the screen you can click on the “deposit” button.
Logged into your Unibet account
Once on this page you will be met with a few different payment methods to choose from. Since most users of the site choose to pay by debit card, this is the automatic option it pre-selects for you. You will have three different cash amounts to choose from. If you want to deposit these amounts then simply click the one you want. If not, you can type in a custom amount in the empty box below.
Once you have input your card details on the left side of the box you will be ready to hit the deposit button at the bottom of the screen. This will put your chosen cash value into your account e-wallet and you will be ready to hit the homepage again and start looking for betting markets.
Depositing funds via Visa
Step #4: Find the sport you require
So, you have money in your account. Now it’s time to hit the sportsbook and find the sport in question you would like to bet on. Since we are wanting to bet on transfer we need to find the football section of the site. You can find these two ways. Either by using the black sidebar to find the sport you want (all are listed alphabetically) and following the categories on each screen to find transfers. Or if you’re after a short cut, simply go to football and then type “transfers” into the magnifying glass or search bar to the right side of the screen. This will take you straight to the right page. You can see in my example below the small search box that appears.
Unibet football betting
All available markets for Cristiano Ronaldo transfer betting
As you can see, this page is the transfer screen where you can see all of the available markets for the football markets across the Unibet site. Let’s move onto the betting itself!
Step #5: Placing the wagers & football transfer betting
Choosing a specific bet
As you can see in the image above, when you find a bet you wish to make, all you need to do is click the button where the odds are. This opens a small black bet slip in the bottom right hand corner. As you can see it auto populates with just the odds and the details of the bet itself.
If you see the below example you can see the difference once I have put a cash value inside the bet box. Using £20 as the example. If you take a look here you can see that placing a bet on Cristiano Ronaldo to move to the selected team (Manchester united) by the the close of the transfer window (deadline day is 1st September 2022), ad you bet £20, then you will only make £26 total which is your original £20 bet and just £6 profit due to the 3/10 odds. Not a huge win if you ask me.
Entering your transfer bet stake amount
Take a look at this second option instead. If you were more confident and had heard rumours about Atletico Madrid putting an offer in for Cristiano instead and you thought that was more likely to happen, then you could place a bet on that. If you placed the same wager of £20 on this outcome you would instead receive £200 in winnings which is 10x your original bet. This is much more risky due to the 9/1 odds but is also much more interesting of a win should your prediction come true!
Do not forget to click the bright yellow “place bet” button when you have finished choosing your outcome. If you do not click this you will not actually place the bet so you have no chance of winning any profit.
Placing your transfer bet
Step #6: Waiting for bets to settle
So, once you’ve made the actual bet and clicked “place bet”, all that is left to do is wait to find out if your predictions came true. If you’re an avid watcher of football news then you’ll probably find out before the site tells you, but if not, then Unibet will notify you of your results. You can always check on the bet slip before then but if there’s nothing to report there is no point checking.
Step #7: If you have winnings
If you happen to be one of the lucky few who are accurate with their football transfer predictions then you can expect to receive your winnings into your Unibet e-wallet. This is an automatic process the site will sort for you. When it comes to withdrawing you will be able to do so in a similar way to how to deposit – except directly from the wallet instead.
As with any type of betting, you need to do your research in order to stand any chance at succeeding (unless you know something the rest of us don’t!). You can follow the rumours, keep up with the football news and pay attention throughout the season to who might be unhappy and looking to move to a new team. Once you have all of this prepared you stand a good chance of understanding the transfer market and making accurate bets on transfer betting sites.
