Match Preview: Sheffield United Vs Man United

Sheffield United travel to Old Trafford tonight for a battle that could prove to be very important in the race for Europe. Sheffield United were served very badly by VAR when they played Aston Villa for the Premier League’s first game back after lockdown, with the Villa keeper blatantly taking the ball into his own goal but goal line technology failed to notify the referee and Var did not intervene. They will be feeling very hard done by and will hoping to get a result today to consolidate their position in the table.

In fact if Sheffield United win this game, then they leapfrog Man United into fifth place, depending on other results. United have not played particularly well this season, but they will be relatively pleased with their position in the table. Leicester City have performed poorly since lockdown and United will be needing results in these sorts of games in order to get into the top four, a realistic objective at this point of the season.

Manchester United’s top performer recently has undoubtedly been Bruno Fernandes. The midfielder has commanded a place in the middle of the midfield and he has been providing class in a position that they, and many of their rivals such as Arsenal and Tottenham, have struggled to find quality players. Manchester United will be very optimistic about the Portuguese talent, and he seems to keep popping up with goals.

Sheffield United have had a fairy tale story so far this season and have been unbelievable for a newly promoted side, especially one with their budget and squad. Their results haven’t been thanks to individual performances but rather thanks to team solidity and defensive resolve. They play as a team, a harmonious unit, and whatever happens for the rest of the season they have been immense and will be very proud of this season.
