This Weekend’s Football League

With the international break this weekend, we have decided to have a look at some of the key games, in the lower leagues of English football.

Blackpool v Ipswich Town

On Saturday, Ipswich travel to Bloomfield Road to take on Blackpool. The Tractor boys have enjoyed an exceptional start to the season, winning three and drawing one. The same can’t be said for the Tangerines though, as they’ve started the season with destitute form, winning one and losing three.

Demetri Mitchell is a key player for Blackpool, whilst fullbacks aren’t always considered the most important players, Mitchell is certainly an exception, the left back has the highest AMR in the Blackpool squad, with 7.09, as well as getting his name on the scoresheet once this season.

Gwion Edwards has been in fantastic form for Ipswich so far this season. The right midfielder has outstanding statistics, with an AMR of 7.72, two goals and one assist.

In the two sides previous five league meetings, Ipswich have just edged it. 2 wins, 2 draws and a loss.

Lincoln City v Bristol Rovers

Lincoln host Bristol Rovers at Sincil Bank on Saturday, the two sides have had contrasting starts to the season. Lincoln have got off to a flawless start, winning 4 out of 4, whereas Bristol have won 1, drawn 1 and lost 2.

Bradford City vs Harrogate Town

On Monday night, Harrogate Town make the short trip to Valley Parade to take on Bradford City. The two sides have had similar starts to the season. Harrogate have one win, two draws and a loss, whereas the Bantams have one win and two draws.

Town had a season to remember last term, the Sulphurites just missed out on automatic promotion, but were victorious in the playoffs with a 3-1 win over Notts County.

Harrogate seem to be adjusting to life in the football league appropriately, Town have had no problems on the goal scoring front, scoring seven goals so far, nonetheless defensively the Sulphurites have been dissatisfactory, conceding four in four.

Bradford City are still suffering from a relegation hangover from the 2018/2019 season, last season was a mediocre one for City, finishing 9th and just missing out on the play off places, however the Bantams didn’t achieve their target of automatic promotion.

In terms of key players Lee Novak is a standout for Bradford City, the veteran striker has 3 goals in 3 games so far this season, Novak claimed the man of the match award in City’s 2-1 triumph over Stevenage.

Jack Muldoon has been outstanding for Harrogate this season, the centre forward has 3 goals in 2 games and has the highest average match rating in the Harrogate squad with a 8.15, Muldoon netted 13 times in Harrogate’s promotion winning campaign last season.
